A large showy hybrid, possibly made by Mulford Foster and a likely cross of (Androlepis skinneri x Aechmea distichantha v. schlumbergeri) though there is no absolute record. A show y, large, robust and hardy plant. Stiff, reddish, sword-like leaves form a funnel-shaped rosette up to 4 feet tall, with an inflorescence of pink-tipped, white berries.
