AKA caapi (meaning spirit rope) or jagube, this South American liana has a long history as a plant teacher among the indigenous peoples of the Amazon rainforest, who typically brew ed it with other sacred herbs into the "black drink", though the Gauhibos people of Venezuela chewed the bark instead. Vine is an eager climber and can grow up to 100' with appropriate supports, and its stem will thicken and become woody, forming fantastical whorls and spirals.
