Yamaha PSR-E383 Portable Keyboard
The Yamaha PSR-E383 is a versatile 61-key portable keyboard designed for beginners, developing musicians and home players who want an expressive first instrument with plenty of roo m to grow. Its 61 touch-sensitive keys respond to how firmly you play, helping new musicians develop proper dynamic control from the start. Play gently and the sound becomes softer; play more firmly and it becomes louder and more expressive. With 650 Voices, 260 accompaniment Styles, 125 preset Songs, 12 Super Articulation Lite Voices, DSP effects, Auto Chord Play and Yamaha’s built-in lesson functions, the PSR-E383 offers far more depth than a basic entry-level keyboard. USB audio and MIDI connectivity, battery operation, Duo Mode and built-in speakers also make it practical for lessons, home practice, music education and everyday playing. The touch-sensitive keyboard is one of its most important advantages. Rather than every note playing at roughly the same level, the PSR-E383 responds to your touch, helping you learn to shape a performance with dynamics. That matters whether you are practising simple melodies, playing piano parts or working through Yamaha’s built-in lesson material. As your confidence grows, features such as automatic accompaniment, arpeggios, Dual and Split modes, Registration Memory and USB connectivity give you plenty more to explore. For a first keyboard, that balance between simplicity and depth is a major strength. DETAILED FEATURES & BENEFITS 61 Touch-Sensitive Keys The Yamaha PSR-E383 features 61 organ-style touch-sensitive keys. Touch Response can be adjusted between: Soft Medium Hard Off This allows the keyboard to respond differently depending on the player’s technique and preferences. For a beginner, learning on a touch-sensitive instrument is especially useful because it encourages proper control over volume and expression. Rather than simply learning which notes to play, you begin learning how to play them musically. 650 Voices The PSR-E383 includes 650 instrument Voices. These comprise: 258 Panel Voices 25 Drum/SFX Kits 20 Arpeggio Voices 347 XGlite Voices The sound library covers a broad selection of instruments including: Pianos Electric pianos Organs Guitars Bass guitars Strings Brass Saxophones Synthesizers Drums Percussion Orchestral sounds That gives developing players the freedom to explore different styles of music rather than being restricted to a small collection of basic keyboard sounds. Super Articulation Lite The PSR-E383 includes 12 Super Articulation Lite Voices. These are designed to reproduce some of the characteristic playing techniques associated with real acoustic instruments. For example, selected guitar sounds can reproduce additional noises and articulations that make the performance feel more realistic. This helps introduce beginners to the idea that different instruments have their own playing characteristics rather than simply behaving like another keyboard preset. Yamaha AWM Stereo Sampling The PSR-E383 uses Yamaha’s AWM Stereo Sampling sound technology. This provides the foundation for its instrument Voices and is designed to reproduce the character of real instruments through recorded samples. For the player, this means more convincing and musical sounds across the keyboard. 260 Accompaniment Styles The PSR-E383 includes 260 automatic accompaniment Styles. A Style can provide: Drums Bass Chords Additional backing parts The accompaniment follows the chords you play, creating the experience of performing with a small backing band. This is especially useful for beginners because it helps develop: Timing Rhythm Chord knowledge Musical confidence Ensemble awareness It also makes everyday practice much more enjoyable. Smart Chord Yamaha’s Smart Chord function allows beginners to use automatic accompaniment without needing to know complex chord shapes. The keyboard can interpret simpler note input and generate suitable harmony. This makes arranger-style playing accessible much earlier in the learning process. As your chord knowledge develops, you can move into Multi Finger mode for greater manual control. Auto Chord Play The PSR-E383 includes Auto Chord Play with 50 preset chord progressions. This allows the keyboard to automatically play a chord sequence while an accompaniment Style continues underneath. Your hands are then free to concentrate on: Melody Timing Improvisation Right-hand practice For beginners, this can be a very useful way of experiencing a complete musical arrangement before both hands are fully confident. 41 DSP Effects The PSR-E383 provides 41 DSP effect types. DSP allows Yamaha to apply effects such as delay or distortion to compatible sounds. That can make guitars, synths and other Voices feel more appropriate to the music being played. Yamaha can automatically recall recommended DSP settings for compatible Voices, so new players can benefit without needing to understand detailed effects programming. Reverb & Chorus The effects system also includes: 15 Reverb types 7 Chorus types Reverb gives sounds a sense of acoustic space, while Chorus can add width and richness. These effects help make the keyboard sound less dry and more polished. 152 Arpeggio Types The built-in Arpeggio function provides 152 different patterns. Play a group of notes and the PSR-E383 can automatically turn them into a repeating rhythmic phrase. This is useful for: Pop Electronic music Synth parts Guitar-style patterns Songwriting Creative practice For a beginner, it is also a fun way to hear how simple notes and chords can be transformed into more complex musical ideas. 26 Harmony Types The PSR-E383 includes 26 Harmony types. Harmony functions can automatically add musically appropriate additional notes to a melody. This can make a simple right-hand part sound fuller and help players understand how harmonies can support a melody. Dual Voice The Dual function allows two Voices to be layered together. For example, you could combine: Piano and strings Piano and pad Organ and strings Two synth sounds This can create a richer sound without needing any external equipment. Split Keyboard The Split function allows different Voices to be assigned to different areas of the keyboard. You might use: Bass on the left and piano on the right Strings on one side and piano on the other Two contrasting sounds within one performance This gives the player more flexibility than simply using one Voice across the entire keyboard. 125 Preset Songs The PSR-E383 includes 125 built-in Songs. These can be used alongside Yamaha’s lesson functions to help players practise timing, note recognition and coordination. A downloadable Song Book is also available from Yamaha for supported material. Keys to Success The Keys to Success lesson system breaks songs into smaller practice stages. Rather than trying to learn an entire piece at once, you can focus on individual sections and gradually build them together. For beginners, this can make the learning process much easier to manage. 3-Step Lesson The Yamaha lesson system includes: Listening Timing Waiting These modes allow players to work on different aspects of a song. Waiting mode can pause the song until the correct note is played, making it especially useful when learning where notes are located on the keyboard. Rhythm & Touch Tutor The Rhythm & Touch Tutor helps players develop both timing and dynamic control. Because the PSR-E383 has touch-sensitive keys, it can encourage players to think about how strongly they play as well as whether the correct note has been pressed. That helps develop more musical playing habits. Duo Mode Duo Mode divides the keyboard into two equivalent pitch ranges. This allows two people to sit at the same instrument and play matching notes side by side. It can be useful for: Teacher and student lessons Parent and child practice Demonstrating fingering Simple duets For music tuition, this can be a genuinely useful feature. 200-Entry Music Database The PSR-E383 provides a 200-entry Music Database. Choose a suitable musical category and the keyboard can automatically recall useful Voice and Style settings. For new players who are still learning which sounds and accompaniment types work together, this can save a lot of trial and error. One Touch Setting One Touch Setting automatically selects an appropriate Voice when you choose an accompaniment Style. This helps keep the playing process simple. Instead of spending time searching through hundreds of sounds, you can select a Style and start playing. Registration Memory Registration Memory allows favourite combinations of Voices and panel settings to be saved for later recall. As you develop preferred setups, this becomes increasingly useful. Rather than rebuilding the same settings each time, they can be recalled quickly. Two-Track Recording The built-in recorder supports: Up to 5 user Songs 2 recording tracks Approx. 10,000 notes Recording yourself can be extremely valuable for learning. You can focus entirely on playing, then listen back afterwards and notice timing or note issues that may have been harder to spot during the performance. The two-track system also allows separate parts to be recorded. USB Audio & MIDI The PSR-E383 supports USB audio and MIDI communication with compatible computers and smart devices. This allows the keyboard to work with: Recording software Music education apps MIDI software Content-creation setups The ability to transmit audio and MIDI over USB gives the PSR-E383 useful long-term flexibility. Rec’n’Share Compatibility The PSR-E383 supports Yamaha’s Rec’n’Share workflow on compatible smart devices. This can be used to help create audio and video performance recordings. For students or players who want to record their progress or create social-media content, it can be a useful extra feature. AUX Input The built-in AUX IN connection allows audio from a compatible external device to be played through the keyboard. This can be useful for: Playing along with favourite music Backing tracks Lesson material Practice recordings Headphone Connection A standard stereo PHONES/OUTPUT socket allows headphones to be connected for quiet practice. This is particularly useful for home players who need to practise without disturbing other people. Sustain Pedal Compatibility A compatible sustain footswitch can be connected. For piano-style playing, a sustain pedal is one of the most useful optional accessories because it allows notes and chords to continue sounding naturally after the keys are released. Built-In Speakers The PSR-E383 includes: Two 12cm speakers 2.5W + 2.5W amplification This makes the keyboard fully self-contained for home playing and lessons. No external speaker system is required for normal use. Battery or Mains Operation The PSR-E383 can operate from either: A suitable Yamaha PA-130 AC adaptor Six AA batteries Supported battery types include alkaline, manganese and rechargeable Ni-MH batteries. Battery operation makes it easy to move the keyboard between rooms, lessons or locations where convenient mains power is not available. At approximately 4.4kg excluding batteries, it is also relatively easy to transport. WHO IS IT FOR?
