Yamazaki Puncheon 2013 – Single Malt Japanese Whisky Part of the same celebrated series as the award-winning Sherry Cask 2013, the Yamazaki Puncheon 2013 showcases a unique style shaped by maturation in 480-litre American oak puncheon casks. With a lower spirit-to-wood ratio, the slower ageing process yields a whisky of exceptional balance and finesse, softer on the palate yet bursting with layered complexity. The nose reveals ripe melon, dried apricot, waxy quince, fresh barley, and a touch of marzipan, while the palate unfolds with frangipane, apricot jam, ginger, white chocolate, and delicate spices. A long, elegant finish lingers with notes of musky white peach, honey, sugared almonds, and spiced lemon curd. Described as Speyside-esque in elegance, this bottling demonstrates Yamazaki’s versatility and artistry beyond its more intense cask styles. Featured in Ian Buxton’s 101 World Whiskies to Try Before You Die, the Puncheon 2013 remains one of the rarest and most collectible Yamazaki expressions, an essential release for connoisseurs seeking the full spectrum of the distillery’s craftsmanship.
