98 Points - Philip Rich | Last Stocks The wines of Yarra Yering are always highly sought-after, with the 2021 vintage wines attracting a huge amount of interest. Made from grapes grown on a single block of Shiraz planted in 1973, Yarra Yering's Underhill Shiraz is always a beautiful example of the perfumed cool-climate style Shiraz that Yarra Valley is capable of. The 2021 Yarra Yering Underhill Shiraz is deliciously medium bodied with a touch of aniseed spice, the bright blue plum fruits bring energy to the palate and some black plums and excellent fruit concentration. As always from this block we see some cured meat and a smoke-char interest driving the back palate. A solid core of fruit, the oak is a faint seasoning that plays second fiddle to the fruit. "98 Points. Sourced from a single block planted in 1973. Fermented with a combination of whole bunches and whole berries. Half the wine was fermented and matured in a 3500L French foudre (purchased in 2019), the other half in French puncheons (10% new). A medium-deep and very bright crimson. Lifted and immediately appealing with its aromas of black raspberries and violets alongside a cornucopia of spices including cracked black pepper, anise and fennel seeds. A gorgeous medium-weighted, intensely flavoured and long Yarra Valley shiraz with enough tannin to suggest patience will be rewarded. Great stuff. 13.5% alc. Drink: 2023 - 2035.
