Yellow Unexpected (2004) was commissioned by choreographer James Hansen in the Department of Dance at SUNY Brockport. James explained that when he commuted from the city of Rochest er to the rural setting of SUNY Brockport, he was taken aback by the beauty of goldenrods in a field on his drive. He had never seen field of them as a child. growing up in Iowa. Both the music and the choreography sought to mimic the subtle way the move by the breeze and the sometimes dramatic weather conditions in Western New York. Show more
