TACHUN (SPRING OUTING) was composed in 2021 for “The Joy Project,” to commission uplifting works for performance at free outdoor concerts in the San Francisco Bay region. The work’ s title comes from the annual Chinese festival when people go outdoors and travel, to welcome the arrival of the new Spring season. This cheerful 5-minute work features energetic melodic lines in unison, contrasting with vivid rhythmic patterns, which the composer indicates as expressing our excitement upon breathing the fresh Spring air.
