Obama Yurii, a 54-year-old serviceman of the Armed Forces, received the call sign “Obama” back in 2018, when he joined Ukraine’s defense. His nickname, inspired by the smoke from t rench candles that darkened his naturally tan skin, stuck with him. In battles for Bakhmut, he sustained severe injuries. His left arm was amputated, while his leg was painstakingly reconstructed. He suffers from intense phantom pain and lingering physical torment — yet his optimism and love for life remain untouched. Now undergoing rehab at the Rivne Regional Veterans Hospital, he finds healing through art. His painting features a black and white cat, united as one — a symbol of harmony between light and darkness, inseparable and whole. Show more
