Protection That Grows With Your Young Rider When kids are sorting cattle or working the practice pen, they need gear that won't quit before they do. Weaver Leather Youth Western Chinks deliver that essential "stick" in the saddle plus real protection from brush, ropes, and saddle sores—all in a package that adjusts through multiple growth spurts. Built from 4–5 oz. chrome-tanned cowhide, these chinks give young riders the same professional-grade leg protection the adults depend on. The medium brown finish is a ranch-tested choice that hides dust and work sweat while maintaining a supple feel season after season. Multiple leg strap holes and adjustable back belts mean you can dial in the fit today and let them out next year. From daily chores to Ranch Riding and Cutting classes, these chinks help your rider look the part and stay comfortable in the saddle. Why Riders Choose Weaver Youth Chinks Built-in adjustability for years of use — Multiple leg strap holes and adjustable back belts accommodate growth without sacrificing security or fit. Lightweight yet protective cowhide — 4–5 oz. chrome-tanned leather shields against brush and rope burns without the fatigue of heavy adult chaps. Maximum airflow and mobility — Classic chink length keeps legs cooler on long summer rides and makes it easy for kids to dismount and work cattle on foot. Arena-ready traditional styling — Clean, professional look that's perfectly suited for Ranch Riding, Sorting, and Cutting classes—judges notice quality gear. Low-maintenance earth tone — Rich brown leather hides the inevitable dirt of daily ranch work while staying soft and supple ride after ride. Best For Active youth riders ages 8–14 looking for durable, adjustable leg protection that transitions from barn chores to the show pen. Frequently Asked Questions Q: How should these chinks fit my child? Weaver Leather Youth Chinks should hit midway between the knee and ankle for the best look and function. Buy them slightly long to account for growth—the adjustable straps will keep them secure in the meantime. The multiple leg strap holes let you fine-tune the fit as they grow. Q: Is the leather too heavy for a smaller child? Not at all. The 4–5 oz. weight is the sweet spot for youth gear—heavy enough to offer real protection from friction and brush, but light enough to keep them comfortable during long rides. It's the same leather weight many trainers recommend for young riders just starting out in western disciplines. Q: Can these work for both ranch work and show classes? Absolutely. The clean, traditional styling and rich brown leather make these chinks equally at home in the practice pen and the show ring. They're particularly well-suited for Ranch Riding, Sorting, and Cutting classes where judges expect to see authentic working gear.
