Si Golraine's latest path to artistic copper transformation employs heat from an open flame, producing in this case a bold and colorful collection of heirloom Yūgen Copper Kettles. The concept of 'functional art' has always been at the core of Eatingtools' mission, so for the latest project employing these beautiful, Japanese-made copper kettles as her canvas, the multi-disciplinary artist, originally from Ukraine and now living in Staten Island, NYC, embarks on a journey of exploration to discover the colorful possibilities of flame-induced copper metalmorphosis. After many years pursuing a variety of mediums in the fine art world, working with these copper kettles and other Eatingtools objects like her TiStix Two-of-a-Kind Sets, Si is able to bridge more traditional visual artistic techniques with the alteration of metals to reveal unexplored color palette possibilities. The kettle itself, lightweight, handsome, and beautifully crafted from solid copper with nickel plated interior, designed to boil water atop wood, gas, or electric stoves, will heat two to three quarts of liquid beneath a removable lid and foldable handle. The oxidized portion that gives each a one-of-a-kind finish, has been sealed to protect from tarnishing, while the brushed copper portions will develop a natural patina with regular use. Show more
