The Mighty Oak - sacred to many people, including the ancient Greeks, the Norse and the Celts. Heavy, strong and resistant to decay, there is evidence of oak being used for buildin g as much as 9,000 years ago in Germany. It is said that over 2,000 oak trees were used to build HMS Victory.
