The estate's Pinot Grigio vineyards benefit from a rare microclimate: Lake Garda generates a morning fog that shields young vines from harsh sun, while warm breezes from the Po Valley temper cold Alpine winds. The grapes undergo a one-day cold soak maceration before a prolonged 20-day fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a carefully controlled 61–64°F, a technique designed to preserve delicate aromatics and maintain bright acidity without any oak influence.Tasting NotesAroma: The nose opens with fresh green apple and pear before shifting into citrus zest and subtle white flower notes. A faint hint of lemon candy rounds out the aromatic profile.Taste: On the palate, tart lemon and ripe apple lead the entry, giving way to pear drops and a whisper of blanched almond at mid-palate. The wine is light-bodied with a balanced acidity that keeps each sip vibrant and structured without sharpness.Finish: The finish is clean and refreshing, with lingering notes of ripe peach skin and citrus oil. It fades gracefully, leaving a subtle mineral impression that invites another sip.How to Drink Zenato Pinot GrigioThis wine is at its best served well chilled, between 45–50°F, and poured into a standard white wine glass to concentrate its delicate aromatics. It works beautifully on its own as an aperitivo or paired with light fare. Spritz Bianco: The wine's crisp acidity and floral notes make it a natural base for a white wine spritz with soda water and a lemon twist. Hugo Cocktail: Its green apple and elderflower-adjacent character pairs naturally with the elderflower syrup and prosecco in a Hugo. White Sangria: The pear and citrus profile shines through when blended with fresh stone fruit and a splash of brandy in a summer sangria. It is light-bodied and crisp, with balanced acidity and a clean, refreshing finish. How does Zenato Pinot Grigio compare to Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio? Santa Margherita Valdadige tends toward richer citrus and stone fruit flavors and typically commands a higher price point, averaging around $25 with an average critic score near 87. There are no aggressive tannins or oak-driven complexity to navigate.Where is Zenato Pinot Grigio made? The vineyards sit near Lake Garda, whose moderating influence on the local climate is central to the wine's character. What foods pair well with Zenato Pinot Grigio? Grilled shrimp or branzino benefit from the wine's citrus acidity cutting through richness. Fresh caprese salad mirrors its light, clean profile. Chicken piccata echoes the lemon notes on the palate. The cold soak maceration and extended low-temperature fermentation in stainless steel yield a wine with more aromatic complexity and palate texture than many peers that rush through production. The Lake Garda microclimate — warm Po Valley air meeting Alpine cool under a protective morning fog — gives the fruit a ripeness and balance that flatter terroirs in the region struggle to match. For a weeknight white or a large-format gathering, Zenato consistently delivers a level of freshness and precision that justifies its reputation as one of Italy's benchmark affordable Pinot Grigios.
