Zilla are making custom cabs out of Cornwall, UK and are turning up on stages with some pretty big hitters. This one is their Fatboy model: an oversized horizontal format 2x12", not dissimilar in dimensions from a Mesa oversize model. It's packed with a complimentary pair of Celestions: a Vintage 30 for midrange kick and clarity, and a Neodymium Creamback to round out the highs and lows and take a few kilograms off the weight. The front grill has a couple of clever tabs and some velcro for easy removal and reattachment, so you can mess around with various mic placements and see exactly what you're doing. The build quality is extremely impressive: this is simply way better than you'll get out of a production model cab in terms of woodwork and finish. How does it sound? Very, very big indeed. It's tight and punchy down low, easily handling low tunings or extended range guitars, but still super clear and chiming up top and breathy through the mids. This would cost you about A$1900-ish new, by the time you pay the shipping and taxes, so it really is a bargain. Oh yeah, and it's a little wee bit green.
