Refugio County, Texas was created in 1826 out of the Old Mexican Municipality, making it one of the oldest of Texas Counties. This volume represents the early marriages beginning i n 1839. These marriages had been recopied from the originals by Eugene Low, Clerk of the County Court of Refugio, and the Deputy Clerk, E. D. Clarkston, in 1900. They give a fuller accounting of the marriage than many of the Marriage books in this series as they include the official's name and position, i.e., priest, minister, justice, etc., and the clerk's name.
