Passivhaus Retrofit focuses on the renovation of buildings to help them reach their full energy-efficiency potential and Passivhaus standards of comfort and health. Where the Passivhaus classic standard is typically geared around the creation of new build houses, the EnerPHit standard was introduced in 2010 created to bring existing buildings up to date and to meet the world leading Passivhaus EnerPHit standards. This course will offer an introduction to the benefits of Passivhaus retrofit and discuss how to communicate with clients. We’ll delve into the Retrofit processes and share details on the various toolkits which are available and discuss the differences between Passivhaus and Energiesprong retrofit. We’ll cover the EnerPHit standard and look at what we’ve learned through the lived experience of a Passivhaus architect and finally, will present some case studies with technical data from a range of project shapes and sizes.Retrofit methodology and processes This session looks at the rigour that Passivhaus provides to retrofit, including assessment, option evaluation, step-by-step planning, design and oversight during construction and certification. SpeakersSarah Price, QODA As a Technical Director at QODA Sarah has a wealth experience in the construction industry specializing in Passivhaus, sustainability, low energy buildings, and retrofit. Sarah has worked on over 90 certified Passivhaus buildings across the country including the first Passivhaus leisure centre, and the construction stage of the largest Passivhaus development in the UK. She has worked with Decarbonization Fund projects, and with many clients helping them meet their climate emergency targets and delivering a route to zero carbon. Sarah is an AECB expert advisor, a Technical Advisor for the Passivhaus Trust, an AECB Carbonlite Retrofit Assessor, and a member of the BSI Retrofit Steering Task Group set up after the Each Home Counts review. Sarah is the technical author for PAS 2035:2019 and PAS 2030 retrofit standard amendments (2021), and the lead technical author for several BEIS Insulation Retrofit guides, published (2021-22). She was the co-author for the Passivhaus Trust’s Technical Guidance on Airtightness (2020). Robert Prewett, Prewett Bizley Architects Robert heads the London office of Prewett Bizley Architects and has developed considerable expertise in low-carbon construction, particularly in the field of retrofit. He qualified as a Passivhaus designer in 2011 and has presented a number of ground-breaking retrofit projects at the UK and International Passivhaus conferences, as well as presenting Masterclasses for the UK Passivhaus Trust. In 2010 he coined the term Retrofit Coordinator and helped set up the course of the same name that is now delivered by the Retrofit Academy as a level 5 professional qualification. He also sat on the PAS 2035 steering group which directed the British Standard for Retrofit. In 2022 Bob received an RIBA award for a deep retrofit project to a mews house and the home featured on the RIBA/Channel 4 House of the year series, making it to the shortlist of 7 projects.
