Passivhaus Retrofit focuses on the renovation of buildings to help them reach their full energy-efficiency potential and Passivhaus standards of comfort and health. Where the Passivhaus classic standard is typically geared around the creation of new build houses, the EnerPHit standard was introduced in 2010 created to bring existing buildings up to date and to meet the world leading Passivhaus EnerPHit standards. This course will offer an introduction to the benefits of Passivhaus retrofit and discuss how to communicate with clients. We’ll delve into the Retrofit processes and share details on the various toolkits which are available and discuss the differences between Passivhaus and Energiesprong retrofit. We’ll cover the EnerPHit standard and look at what we’ve learned through the lived experience of a Passivhaus architect and finally, will present some case studies with technical data from a range of project shapes and sizes.Why choose Passivhaus over Energiesprong retrofit?The talk will discuss the two different approaches of Energiesprong and Passivhaus in their technical approaches, as well as how they can be applied to a variety of projects. We will look at their cross over and discuss whether they can be used together to produce robust solutions. Energiesprong has traditionally been used as a retrofit approach, however there are projects using it as a new build and this certainly gives greater possibility of the two approaches being used in conjunction. SpeakersHannah Jones, Greenguage Hannah is a founding Director of Greengauge with her partner Toby Cambray. Hannah has a broad range of experience in building physics and MEP services and uses this to direct projects from fundamental energy performance principles. Collaboration across disciplines to deliver efficient and effective designs has always been an important focus of her work. Hannah has particular interest in retrofit both in heritage and social housing schemes and is keen continually learn and test different methods on delivering retrofit effectively at scale.
