Why This Watch Matters A rare LeCoultre calculator chronograph model with an unusual double-bezel and a gorgeous anthracite grey dial. The Full Story Several brands have produced tool watches that allowed manual calculator functions, namely the Breitling Navitimer featuring a slide scale, and the Heuer reference 110.633 calculator watch. This LeCoultre calculator is a very unusual one that doesn’t come up too often. The first thing you notice is the two-layer slide rule on the bezel; the outer ring rotates and the inner ring remains fixed. The slide rule is designed to measure distance, as well as convert weight and volume from the imperial to the metric system and vice versa. The dial on this example is beautifully preserved in matte anthracite grey with undisturbed lume plots in an ideal creamy vanilla color. The red seconds hand adds just the right amount of accent to the watch. The movement inside is the celebrated Valjoux caliber 72 chronograph movement. The polished/satin finish on the JB Champion bracelet adds a bit of style to the watch. It was the smart watch of the era, and we dare say that it might be more stylish than what we have today. The case appears to remain unpolished with clean edges and original satin finish intact. The crown and pushers appear to be original; the crown is unsigned. There is an engraving on the caseback. The dial is mint with full, round lume plots with a gorgeous vanilla color. The handset appears to be original as well. Both bezels are well preserved and have gained a soft patina, making them a soft black that matches the dial perfectly. The movement is a Valjoux 72 chronograph movement; this caliber is most well known for powering the Rolex Daytona models, so it’s a solid watch inside out.
