Why This Watch Matters The reference 7150-2 is a compelling update retaining the much-loved large 42mm Super Compressor case combined with a gorgeous patina on the dial. The Full Story Longines has been a prominent leader in the tool watch world, encompassing the air, land, and sea. It released the first generation of this Diver series in 1958 starting with the reference 7042, utilizing the undoubtably superior Super Compressor case by Ervin Piquerez (EPSA), which produced an ingenious water-tight case. Longines continued to make some minor changes throughout the next decade. This reference 7150-2 was produced from the early to mid 1960s and features a few upgrades, including an automatic caliber 290, which offered a higher beat than the former movement 19AS. Its water resistance was also doubled, reaching 200 meters from 100 meters. The cross-hatch crowns became bigger and the luminous material was updated from radium to tritium for safety protocol. It’s just a great looking watch, and it's no wonder Longines decided to re-create a modern version that is nearly identical to the original design. The case appears to have been polished but retains its integrity overall. The diver logo on the back is well preserved. The large cross-hatch crowns are in nice condition. What truly brings this watch to life, though, is the gorgeous patina on the black glossy dial against the creamy, warm vanilla-hued lume and the gold print. There are some very minor spots from age in some areas, namely around the index at 3. The handset appears to be original and shows some light wear; the color of the lume matches with the lume on the indexes. It comes with a hard-to-find Longines stainless-steel bracelet with a deployant clasp from the same period; the bracelet is in excellent condition and is a neat feature to further bring out the vintage vibe of this watch.
