The 2008 Michigan Capitol Ornament honors the distinguished career of capitol architect Elijah E. Myers. Born in Philadelphia, Myers moved to our state in 1872 upon receiving the c ommission to design Michigan’s new capitol. He lived in Detroit until his death in 1909. Throughout his long and illustrious career Myers designed five capitols--more than any other architect. Three of those buildings--the capitols of Michigan, Texas, and Colorado--still stand.
