Access auditing is an essential skill when looking at existing buildings. It observes the existing situation and makes recommendations for improvements, based upon best practice. This may be required to enable clients to understand the priorities and complete a programme of improvement works or ensure that the information is readily available during any future refurbishment. The skill may also be a useful tool when refurbishing part or all of an existing building to ensure a client understands any access limitations posed by the existing structure or environment. An access appraisal is required during the design process to review the proposed designs. This module will look at the process of appraising and suggest potential report layouts. Whilst these subjects are better served when carried out as a workshop, this module will address the principles, tools and report presentation of auditing existing buildings and appraising plans for proposed buildings or external environments.
