The original Argo design is a tweaked version of the iconic "COB" circuit, allowing players to freely balance the octave fuzz sound with a boosted clean signal. With the fuzz and blend controls set to minimum, the Argo circuit functions as a very versatile and musical sound booster. When Mick Taylor from That Pedal Show suggested making this a switchable feature, I was excited about the possibility of extracting more from a circuit that many players know and love. The Argo Boost Deluxe has essentially the same topology as the Argo, but with an additional footswitch and Red Boost knob, allowing you to use the boost portion of the circuit independently. Think of it as changing a lane within the pedal, rather than pairing a new booster inside it. This gives you two optimal gain stages before your drive pedal or drive amp. The boost increases the overall push, and pressing the FUZZ footswitch unleashes the full Argo Octave Fuzz sound. ■Just a little Sparkle The Argo Boost Deluxe features a HIGHS switch that expands the tonal possibilities. In the initial plans for this pedal, Mick wanted to make the boost section a little brighter overall. Rather than making this a permanent sound change, they decided to give the player the option. The pedal ships with the HIGHS switch in the OFF position. Turning this small switch on adds a moderate amount of high-frequency sparkle to the signal when using Boost mode. This brighter circuit is not part of the Octave Fuzz sound.True bypass switching. Approx. 5mA current draw. 9VDC operation (center negative).
