The extent of the Bassman's influence becomes clear when you actually compare its circuitry to that of famous British amplifiers. Setting the Tweed Bassman's volume to low to medium produces a rich, sparkling, and beautiful tone. Turning it up a bit further reveals an on-edge breakup character that guitarists will love, with high responsiveness to picking attacks. Open chords yield rich, bell-like harmonics. And raising the volume all the way to 12 gives you a thick, creamy, and raw crunch tone. This sound is truly original, the source of all heavy guitar tones. After tweaking the Formula 5F6 circuit to achieve a beautiful vintage Bassman response, we wondered, "What would happen if we boosted the gain on a Bassman without knowing about Marshall?" By fine-tuning the gain and tone circuits, we created a completely new sound—a high-gain sound with a bright attack. We then made it possible to switch between these sounds using an internal Mode switch. The Formula 5F6 can produce sounds suitable for a variety of musical styles. For example, you can recreate the sounds of blues played with a Stratocaster and Bassman like Buddy Guy or Otis Rush, or the sounds played by many guitarists such as Jimmy, SRV, Robbie Robertson, and Robben Ford, by combining the Formula 5F6 with an overdrive or fuzz pedal.
