The "The RAT," which debuted in the late 1970s and continues to be a popular and well-received model, is now available in a large case version from 1981 onwards, where the "TONE" control was changed to a "FILTER" control. Based on the dating, we estimate it to be a shipment from around 1982. Although there is some minor paint peeling on the casing, it is in remarkably good condition. The op-amp IC is the LM308N, the basic specification for the RAT, and is made by National Semiconductor, a company that was characteristic of this era. The buffer circuit FET is also a National Semiconductor 2N5458. The RAT has a wide range of tones, from piercing crunch tones to powerful, fuzz-flavored distortion. Compared to the small box version, it has a certain boxy feel and a smoother drive texture. This rare large case version is definitely worth trying.
