The Full Story Royce was owned by Eska Watch Company, and was essential an export brand for the company. Silvan Kocher started Eska in 1918 in Grenchen, Switzerland. This reference 11-231 features an alarm complication, one of our favorites around here, and a gorgeous navy blue color scheme. Fitted with movements from ébauche maker A. Schild, these Royce alarms were produced in the 1970s following the success of Vulcain's Cricket. For the American market, where Royce was successful at the time, Vulcain's Cricket alarm really resonated and boomed in popularity. This example is really clean with a stunning dial. We really do not see too many truly dark blue or navy dials in the world of vintage watches. The case is strong with scratches. The case is possibly unpolished, showing crisp edges on the lugs. The bottom of the lugs show scratches from strap removal and placement. There are light scratches on the caseback although the engravings are all very crisp. The dial is in excellent condition with a slight patina and an overall stunning navy tone. The hour markers and hands have developed some light patina. The lume on the dial at each hour marker and on the hands has developed patina aging the a creamy color. The lume plots on the dial have developed a similar patina to that of the hands. The dial, case, and movement are all signed by Royce. The inside caseback is signed "S. KOCHER."
