“Local Tectonic Snippet #106” Conjuring the warmth and vastness of the desert, this embraces negative space, allowing the eye to wander and inviting personal interpretation. There’s a quiet intrigue here that I love — a sense of movement, as if the land itself is shifting and reshaping beneath the surface. Glossed elements catch the light, enhancing the sense of depth, yet the overall effect remains restrained, an interplay of presence and absence. Yeah! * A note on my "Local Tectonic Series"; this is a style of painting that has pre-occupied me most of the past year or so. These paintings seek to give an impression of the Australian landscape, but do so by not being "descriptive" or figurative. I want these to be works where people can look and find their own meanings within, shifting perhaps each day, evoking a sense of something they may not be able to necessarily put their finger on.
