Atance is a new venture from Bodegas Mustiguillo with wines made from the Valencia region in southeast Spain. The project is driven by Toni Sarrion the man who led a crusade to save the indigenous black variety Bobal. Toni and Bodegas Mustiguillo have been widely recognised as one of Spain’s finest winemakers and wineries. The Vino de Pago El Terrerazo lies within the DO Valencia. Both Atance wines are made from vines grown in and around the town of Requena. This area is characterised by higher altitude vineyards - up to 800 metres elevation - on primarily limestone and sandy soils. The climate is Mediterranean with a strong continental influence with high diurnal temperature ranges between day and night. The (100%) Bobal is sourced from organically grown, old vine fruit at 800 metres. Hand harvested the wine is fermented with indigenous yeast, in stainless steel, then aged in large, French oak foudre for 3 months. This Bobal is medium in body with bold hedgerow fruits, grainy tannins and a bright briary finish. 13.0% and can be enjoyed served cool in the summer months. Drink now and over the next 2 years.
