Inam was born in Karachi, Pakistan, and trained at art schools in London, Istanbul, and Atlanta — three cities with little in common beyond their intensity, which may explain why his forest paintings feel simultaneously northern European and otherworldly. He debuted as a professional artist in 2001 and was launched in the UK by DeMontfort Fine Art in 2009 after a scout spotted his work in the United States. His style has been described as magical expressionism — layered oils that build atmosphere the way a forest builds itself: gradually, from the ground up, in deepening light. Awakening Light I captures the particular quality of early morning filtering through blossom trees — soft lilacs and blush pinks building from the lower edge of the canvas upward, the light seeming to arrive from within the paint rather than falling on it from above.
