Painted in 2004, the work captures the vibrant spirit and architectural charm of Havana at a time of cultural and structural transition. Baird’s composition offers a candid glimpse of daily life—colorful laundry billowing from a wrought-iron balcony, set against the fading elegance of colonial facades—evoking both nostalgia and resilience. Printed using the high-fidelity giclée method, this edition measures 18 x 36 inches and is hand-signed and numbered by the artist from an edition of 325. Baird’s Viva Cuba series is especially significant as it documents a disappearing landscape: much of the historic scenery he portrayed has since changed or vanished due to modernization efforts. This print not only stands as a visually captivating artwork but also as a poignant record of Cuba’s evolving urban identity. Ideal for collectors of contemporary realist art and admirers of Caribbean culture, Laundry on the Balcony is a timeless testament to the beauty found in everyday moments.
