BH Bread Crust — The Cased Caddis That Sneaks Dinner Past Trout Old-school Colorado design, modern-day trout confusion. The Bead Head Bread Crust, originally tied by Ed Rolka, is a simple, effective pattern that looks unassuming—and then gets eaten. Perfect for anyone who likes their fly box practical and their fishing stories believable. Who it’s for For anglers chasing Rocky Mountain fisheries, river nerds who respect classic patterns, and weekend warriors who prefer proven over flashy. AXG Life-approved and built for Life, Adventure-Ready fishing trips. Key Features & Design Pattern: Bead Head Bread Crust — an old Colorado pattern by Ed Rolka Imitates: Mostly imitates a cased caddis larva Sizes: Available in sizes #08 through #20 Style: Bead head for reliable sinking and realistic presentation Performance & Benefits This fly does the quiet work. The bead head helps it ride low and honest in the current while the bread crust profile suggests a cozy cased caddis—basically a slow-cooked meal for trout. Use it when fish are picky, when the water’s clear, or when you want to turn stuck weekends into hero stories. Built for midnight trail runs and questionable decisions—okay, maybe not midnight runs, but definitely for early-morning hatches, long alpine drives, and any time you need a reliable imitation that trout respect. Quick tip: Fish it under an indicator in slower runs, or swing it tight to seams—works great in sizes #12–#16 for standard caddis situations and goes small (#18–#20) when the hatch gets finicky.
