Bubbleweed (blue) Also known as sea grapes, the seaweed species this semi-abstract design is based on has the scientific name Hormosira banksii. It grows in coastal waters around A ustralia and New Zealand in inter-tidal rock pools. Apparently it is salty and crispy when eaten, not unlike a caper. Strands that have broken off from the main plant often wash ashore on Australian beaches. I can't say I've ever tried eating it but I did have fun drawing it and creating this design from photographs I took while beachcombing in Tasmania. Show more
