THE ENGINE SWAP CHAMP! Widget Man's first and most popular product, the BTA has 30 conversion ratios selectable with DIP switches, supporting the vast majority of engine and ignition swaps. WM's proprietary “binary fractioning” software algorithm allows a pipsqueak computer to convert “odd” ratios at blinding speeds, permitting “on the fly” switch changes and keeping cost down and performance up compared to the competition. High-voltage and low-voltage input circuits work with any trigger source from a 5V sensor to a 350V HEI distributor, while dual 5V/12V outputs let the BTA feed ECU's and pulse-driven accessories, not just tachometers. The input is schmitt-triggered and software-filtered, allowing a simple resistor to filter it for systems with very high amplitude “ring” like HEI, while also allowing it to see very low analog voltages, like wraps on spark-plug wires. Ratios for 5, 7, 9 and 10 give it flexibility to work with fixed-magnet alternators on motorcycles, outboards, and other small engines, avoiding the necessity to tap their often-messy ignition systems.
