Matthew Dowdy is a Richmond-based artist with a material practice in atmospheric media. Each Candle Object starts as pure beeswax and two cotton wicks, dipped and shaped by hand wi thout molds - which means no two are the same. Clearing is the wrapped form, two tapers twisted together and scattered with intricate hand-sculpted texture. More sculpture than candle, until you light it.
