Differing from other openers of ambient electronic artist Chypho’s works, “The HMS Challenger Expedition” kicks off this album with a grand start. However, this track is not too dissimilar to the opening of Entomongaku, with its motor-like motif driving the music forward. The album closes with the immersive and atmospheric track, “Through the Hydrophone”. This eight-and-a-half-minute piece provides little in terms of melodic content, yet encapsulates a true sense of the cold and quiet depths. The spirit of adventure and exploration in this installment couples nicely with the first’s more gentle and observational nature, proving them to be sister albums — though they are not exactly twins.
