Cryptanthus zonatusCryptanthus zonatus forms a broad, flat rosette of stiff pointed leaves crossed by silver-grey to cream horizontal bands. The darker ground colour varies from gr een and brown to deep purple, and some dark forms show a much paler silver-white reverse. Fine surface scales, rippled margins and small teeth give the blades a rough finish.Longer leaves add wider sequences of dark and pale zones as the initially tight rosette opens across the substrate. The plant remains extremely low, so its spread reveals a clear many-pointed earth-star outline. Basal offsets eventually form their own banded rosettes around the parent, repeating the transverse pattern at several sizes. Show more
