Known to its crews as the "Mobelwagen" (furniture van), the Flakpanzer IV armed with the 3.7cm Flak 43 was a stop-gap self-propelled anti-aircraft gun built on the ubiquitous Panze r IV chassis. Rushed into service in 1944 as Allied air superiority made German armoured columns increasingly vulnerable to fighter-bomber attack, it mounted a single automatic 3.7cm cannon behind folding armoured sides that dropped down to give the gun crew a full 360-degree field of fire when in action. Dragon's 1/72 rendition reproduces the boxy superstructure and hinged armour plates of this distinctive conversion, along with the Panzer IV Ausf. J running gear beneath, using precision slide-moulding to keep detail sharp even at this small scale.
