The EMG AB Afterburner is an outboard active gain boost module built to sit inside the control cavity of an EMG-equipped instrument, giving the player a switchable clean boost of up to 20dB from a push-pull pot or footswitch without altering the underlying pickup voice. The circuit shares the same 9V supply as the pickups it sits behind, drawing minimal current, and adds no colouration to the signal, so the boosted output is a louder version of what the pickup would deliver unboosted, ready to push a valve amp's front end harder into overdrive or to compensate for the level drop that long cable runs and effects chains introduce. It sits on the EMG solderless accessory shelf alongside the AB220 (the 220K-pot-compatible sibling for instruments running the 220K format), the ABC-SOL blend control for two-pickup instruments wanting continuous bridge-to-neck blending rather than switched selection, and the ABCX-SOL X-Series-compatible version of that blend module. Where the ABC and ABCX modules give continuous mixing between pickup signals, the AB Afterburner is the pure clean-gain solution: no tonal change, no blending, just a switchable boost of the whole pickup output for solo passages or a hotter rhythm setting.
