The EMG AB220 Afterburner is the 220K-format sibling of the standard EMG AB Afterburner, an outboard active gain boost module that gives the player a switchable clean boost of up to 20dB from a push-pull pot or footswitch. Where the standard AB is built for the 25K low-impedance loading that EMG's active pickup circuit expects, the AB220 is designed for instruments running 220K potentiometers in their control circuit, a specific format used in a small number of EMG active configurations and third-party wiring layouts where the standard 25K format does not apply. It sits on the EMG solderless accessory shelf alongside the standard AB (25K format), the ABC-SOL blend control for two-pickup instruments wanting continuous bridge-to-neck blending, and the ABCX-SOL X-Series-compatible version of that blend module. This is the right choice for players who already know their existing circuit is running the 220K format; for the majority of EMG active installations the standard AB is the correct part. The boost function is otherwise identical: clean, uncoloured 20dB gain lift ready for footswitch or push-pull activation, no tonal change added to the pickup signal. Runs on the shared 9V pickup battery. Compatible with the EMG solderless quick-connect harness for tool-free installation. Distributed and supported in the UK by Selectron.
