The EMG TBDC is the active dual-coil ceramic pickup in EMG's Thunderbird-format range, built as a direct replacement for the pickup found in Gibson Thunderbird basses and the wider family of neck-through Thunderbird-bodied instruments. Two ceramic bar magnets run the length of the housing, giving an even magnetic field across all four strings and a broad, full-bodied dual-coil response that suits the long-scale, neck-through Thunderbird platform. The TBDC sits at the natural starting point of the Thunderbird family. Where the TBCS adds steel pole pieces for a tighter, more focused upper-midrange voice and the TBP and TBJ deliver Precision and Jazz Bass character respectively, the TBDC keeps the recognisable Thunderbird tonal centre intact: a thick, warm low end, a settled midrange, and a smooth top end that records and mixes well across rock, hard rock and any style where a Thunderbird's signature weight is wanted. The active circuit keeps the response consistent across the string length and the noise floor low. The TBDC drops straight into any instrument routed for the Thunderbird pickup shell with no woodwork modification. Runs on a single 9V battery and connects through EMG's solderless wiring system for tool-free installation. Distributed and supported in the UK by Selectron.
