About the Stable Base This solid oak stable base pairs with any of our stable tops, from traditional cottage tops through French and panel styles, so you can mix and match to build exactly the stable door you want. Made from solid oak and supplied unfinished, it lets you match the finish to the rest of your home. Just make sure the top and base are for the same finished door size, for example 78" x 33". Solid oak construction Like all our solid oak external doors, the base is built around a solid oak outer frame joined with traditional mortice and tenon joints. It is a full 44mm thick throughout, frame and panels alike, and the inside panels are floating, so the oak can expand and contract naturally with the weather, minimising the movement problems that can affect solid wood doors. It is supplied sanded but unfinished, ready to seal in a finish that suits your home. Sizes Made to suit a standard 78 x 33 stable door, and also available as 78 x 30, with bespoke made-to-measure sizes on request, just contact our sales team. Finishing & Care Made from solid oak, these doors are best fitted in a sheltered spot, under a porch or canopy, rather than in areas fully exposed to direct rain or hot sun. As they're supplied unfinished, protect yours with a treatment made for external use; we recommend the Impranol range for external doors. Oak Weather Bar We also supply an Oak Weatherbar to match the door, which will be required should the door be "open to the elements". Our external doors must be treated before being hung, retreated every six months and kept dry at all times through the use of a canopy or similar.
