Flutter was the first piece in the Dreamscapes series. It's inspired by the village Brunswick Heads near Byron Bay, Australia's most easterly point. The Brunswick River runs throug h the village, and at sunset it lights up in soft hues of lilac, peach and gold. I love photographing the birds flitting through the changing light, and then wander back to my studio, where I preserve the moment forever in layers of beeswax, raw pigment and India ink. The scene in Flutter shows a white-faced honeyeater chick, fluttering up from the wild grasses at the river's edge, just as the sun disappears behind the hills. Show more
