CAS#: Mixture Fruit Acid Complex is a concentrated blend of five botanical extracts: bilberry, sugar cane, sugar maple, orange, and lemon. These extracts contain several naturally occurring alpha hydroxy acids. Alpha hydroxy acids have been shown to promote smoother, younger looking skin by increasing the rate of cell renewal. While the manufacturer recommends a use level between 5 - 15%, we advise less experienced formulators to use this product at the lower level. All products made with AHAs should be tested using a pH meter (not pH paper) to ensure products at final formulation have a pH of at least 4.0. Because products formulated with AHAs can increase sun sensitivity, the FDA requires specific labeling of products which contain AHAs and do not include sunscreens.
