Product Intelligence In the hottest section of a gas turbine—the combustion zone—strength is secondary to survival. The material must resist oxidising into dust. Layrr Materials Hastelloy X is the premier choice for extreme-temperature environments. Unlike precipitation-hardened alloys (like Inconel 718) which can over-age and lose strength above 700°C, Hastelloy X relies on solid-solution strengthening. It maintains its structural integrity and forms a protective, tenacious oxide scale up to 1200°C (2200°F). We supply this powder specifically for engineers who need a material that is as printable as it is durable. Material Behaviour & Microstructure Hastelloy X is unique because it balances high-temperature strength with exceptional ductility. Oxidation Shield: The high Chromium (22%) content ensures the formation of a stable oxide layer that protects the underlying matrix from rapid degradation in air or combustion gas. Solid-Solution Strength: Molybdenum (9%) strengthens the nickel matrix without relying on gamma double prime precipitates. This makes the alloy less sensitive to thermal history and easier to weld/print. Carbide Stability: Carefully controlled carbon content ensures the formation of carbides that pin grain boundaries, preventing creep deformation. Processing Advantage: The Layrr Standard Because it is solid-solution strengthened, Hastelloy X is significantly more "forgiving" in the additive process than Inconel 718 or 738. Crack Resistance: The alloy's high ductility makes it highly resistant to strain-age cracking during the rapid solidification of Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF). Weldability: Excellent response to Directed Energy Deposition (DED) for repairing expensive turbine components.
