Why This Watch Matters Heuer's gorgeous Master-Time dashboard clock is only made better by a 24-hour dial and its original box. The Full Story Heuer has long been associated with auto racing. While wristwatches are more prominent as seen on the wrists of countless drivers, the dashboard clocks have also gained a cult following due to their clean, purpose-built design. Legibility was a paramount factor, as was general practicality; oversized crowns featuring large ridges allowed better grip for users of these clocks. This example is notable for its 24-hour dial layout while maintaining the legendary legibility. Furthermore, the movement inside, an Arogno caliber 28, is a classic "8 day" movement, which is printed right on the dial. These Master-Time clocks were many times mounted alongside a dashboard chronograph, such as the Autavia or, at least used in conjunction with a wristwatch chronograph. Being extremely legible and reliable was paramount for a driver timing individual laps or track portions, and the Master-Time did just what it says, kept the master time. A driver could even use the rotating bezel to point an arrow at the hour hand when starting the race to have an overall elapsed time measurement. Today, this clock presents in excellent condition with a great creamy yellow patina to the tritium lume on the dial and a deep black in the matte dial finish. Accompanying this Master-Time is its original yellow Heuer box complete with packing material inside, like a plastic bag printed with "HEUER SWISS MADE" and a little sticker on the outside reading "MASTER TIME RAD 24h." The whole package is really cool and adds just that extra little bit to this already great piece of Heuer history. The base-plate is signed and has some scratches on the reverse side. The front bezel of the base-plate is in good condition with a few spots of patina. The stopwatch case has some scratches and is stamped with a case number "24042" on its side to the left of the crown. The ridged rotating bezel is in good condition and shows some light wear around the edges. The bezel is tight when rotating. The dial has developed light patina throughout. The tritium lume on the dial has developed patina and aged to a pleasing light creamy color. The lume on the hands has aged to a similar color to that of the dial with some darker patina near the center. The skinny seconds hand is finished in white paint and in excellent condition. The stopwatch case, baseplate, dial, and movement are all signed by Heuer. The crystal has some light scratches. The original yellow Heuer box is in good condition with some light wear.
