Alto Adige is home to some of Italy's (and the world's) great Pinot Blancs, but unfortunately, most grapes are purchased by large cooperatives that craft blends from all over the region, and single-site, terroir-driven wines are elusive. Thankfully Weingut Abraham is here for us. Husband and wife Martin and Malies do things the old way in Alto Adige, pergola training and hand harvesting their vines, and their 'In der Lamm' plantings produce incredibly rich and expressive Pinot Blancs (or Weissburgunder in this part of Tyrolean Italy). Spontaneously fermented and aged for nine months in cask on the lees, before maturing a further six months in stainless, the wine shows a complex array of melon, apple and apricot, with flowers and honey mixed, all laid on a foundation of slate-y minerals. 13.0% ABV
