Philippine Java Fern (Microsorum pteropus "Philippine") is a hardy epiphyte with long, narrow, bright green leaves that carry a distinctive rippled, textured surface. Rather than rooting in the substrate, it clings to wood and rock by its rhizome, which makes it a natural choice for the midground and for dressing hardscape.This is an easy, low-fuss plant that thrives in most parts of the tank. It grows slowly, especially at first, and reproduces by rhizome division and by sending out little offshoot plantlets you can move onto new wood or stone. Leave the rhizome sitting on top of the substrate or tied to hardscape, never buried, as a buried rhizome will rot and recede. It does well in low light and does not need CO2, though gentle CO2 and nutrient rich water will lift the pace.
