Kurume Basaro is a self pollinating or common variety. The figs grow to medium size, around 50-80 grams. The trees grow some tri-lobed leaves. The Kurume Series includes 4 fig varieties that were developed in Kurume City, Japan. 630 seedlings involved in the process were artificially pollinated to produce the high quality varieties, each with their own unique properties. “Basaro” translates to “a lot” in the local Japanese dialect found in the Fukuoka Prefecture where this fig was developed. It not only means productive or prolific, but also extravagant and outside the norm–kind of like the Western term “extra.” A rich flavor and strong sweetness (sugar content 20) are just some of the factors that make Kurume Basaro “extra.” The variety was also developed for beautiful visual appeal, with perfect purple skin, a uniform round shape, and appealing pink pulp. Terms and Conditions: ***Please be sure to read our Terms and Conditions before purchasing cuttings*** When do we ship cuttings? Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December): We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March. **All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees. Rooted Cuttings(Spring): We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span.
