Kurume Kuromitsu is part of a series of 4 figs that were developed through cross-breeding in Japan. Known as the Kurume Series, these four figs were bred through artificial pollination and selective breeding to bring out ideal characteristics like resistance to splitting and appetizing visual appeal. Kurume Kuromitsu figs are rare in the US right now. This is a large variety with figs that can weigh up to 100 grams. Kurume Kuromitsu figs have a sweet honey flavor, although American growers note that the Japanese varieties tend to be slightly less sweet than other Western types. In fact, it is sometimes customary in Japan to pick the figs before peak ripeness to preserve some of the tartness of the underripe fruit. Kurume Kuromitsu has good resistance to splitting and it is a mid season ripening variety. The figs grow on trees with 5-lobed leaves and the leaves have long fingers. Terms and Conditions: ***Please be sure to read our Terms and Conditions before purchasing cuttings*** When do we ship cuttings? Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December): We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March. **All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees. Rooted Cuttings(Spring): We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span. Please do not ask for ETA's or specific arrival dates. You will receive an email when your order ships with UPS Ground tracking details. For all questions, please refer to our Fig FAQ page here.
