This leather cuirass pattern is one of the larger armor projects I've put together, with a separate chest and back made from overlapping horizontal lames. I originally designed it more for LARP, costume, and cosplay. Could you use it for SCA combat? Anything is possible, but I don't really think it's a great choice for that. Prove me wrong? Either way, it's a fun project if you want to build yourself a really good-looking set of leather armor. I've included my Viking and Celtic-inspired knotwork throughout the pattern if you want to carve it as shown, but as always, you're welcome to leave the artwork off or replace it with your own. The cuirass comes in four sizes, with some additional adjustment available by changing the spacing between the horizontal lames. Depending on how you build it, you can get roughly 2–3" (5–7.5 cm) of additional length this way. A note on sizing: These measurements are for the pattern pieces themselves and are meant to help you choose the best starting size. The finished fit will also depend on how you space the lames, your leather thickness, and how you strap and assemble the cuirass. The gorget and shoulder armor shown with the cuirass are separate patterns, or you can pick them up together as part of my armor pattern pack. View Cuirass Sizing These measurements are for the front and back panels of the cuirass. The horizontal lames can be overlapped more closely to reduce the torso length by approximately 2 to 3 inches.
