StackChan is an adorable open-source AI desktop robot co-developed by M5Stack and its global user community. At its core is the M5Stack flagship IoT development kit CoreS3, powered by an ESP32-S3 SoC with a 240 MHz dual-core processor, 16MB Flash, and 8MB PSRAM, supporting both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE. The main unit features a 2.0-inch capacitive touch display with a durable glass cover, a 0.3 MP camera, proximity sensor, 9-axis IMU (accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer), microSD card slot, 1W speaker, dual microphones, and power/reset buttons. The robot body connects to the main unit and includes a USB-C port for power and data, a 700 mAh battery, and two feedback servos—one for 360° horizontal rotation, the other for 90° vertical movement. It also integrates 12 RGB LEDs, an infrared transmitter and receiver, a three-zone touch panel, and a full-featured NFC module. The pre-installed firmware offers a rich set of features, including expressive animations, the XiaoZhi AI assistant, and support for iOS video calls, remote avatars, and device discovery among nearby StackChan units. It’s fully programmable via Arduino and UiFlow2, making it easy to customize behaviors and expand functionality. Note: The product packaging and software development are still in progress.
