Magners Pear Cider 19OZ is a semi-sweet Irish pear cider at 4.5% ABV, made entirely from premium pears in County Tipperary, Ireland. What distinguishes this expression from most commercial pear ciders is that it uses 100% pears rather than apple cider flavored with pear — a distinction Magners has long championed within the category. Quick Facts: ABV: 4.5% | Origin: County Tipperary, Ireland | Style: Semi-Sweet Pear Cider | Producer: C&C Group Production & Heritage Magners is produced by C&C Group in Clonmel, County Tipperary, a region with deep roots in Irish cider-making. The pears used in this expression are ripened and carefully selected before undergoing a slow fermentation process, followed by cold filtration to preserve a clean, fruit-forward character. When Magners introduced its pear cider, the brand drew a sharp line between its all-pear approach and competitors who blended apple cider with pear flavoring — a meaningful production difference that shapes the final liquid. Tasting Notes Aroma: Fresh-pressed pear leads immediately, with a gentle orchard-fruit sweetness and a faint green, slightly herbaceous quality underneath. The nose is clean and inviting without being overly perfumed. Taste: The entry is light and semi-sweet, with fresh pear flavor front and center. At mid-palate, medium carbonation lifts the fruit and introduces a lightly tart edge that builds gradually. The peak balances ripe pear sweetness against a subtle hint of pear skin bitterness, keeping things from tipping into cloying territory. Finish: Semi-dry and relatively brief, with lingering pear and a crisp, clean fade. The carbonation carries through to the end, leaving the palate refreshed rather than coated. How to Drink Magners Pear Magners Pear is best served well chilled, ideally over ice in a pint glass — a serving style the brand popularized for Irish cider. Pour directly over a generous amount of ice and let it sit for a moment to reach peak refreshment. Pear Cider Shandy: Mix half-and-half with a light wheat beer for a low-ABV summer sipper where the pear sweetness complements the wheat's soft body. Cider Spritz: Combine with a splash of elderflower liqueur and sparkling water — the pear's natural fruitiness pairs naturally with floral notes. Cider Mimosa: Use in place of sparkling wine alongside fresh orange juice at brunch; the lower alcohol and pear flavor add an approachable twist. Best For Warm-weather barbecues and outdoor gatherings where a light, fruity option is welcome Introducing non-cider drinkers to the category with an accessible, fruit-forward expression Pairing alongside a casual pub-style meal Stocking a mixed cooler with a range of cider and beer options for guests Frequently Asked Questions What does Magners Pear taste like? The slow fermentation and cold filtration produce a clean, fruit-true liquid that avoids the artificial sweetness common in the category. Produced in County Tipperary — a region synonymous with Irish cider heritage — it carries a credibility that imported competitors from outside Ireland's cider heartland cannot easily replicate. For anyone seeking a straightforward, refreshing pear cider with authentic Irish provenance, Magners Pear remains a reliable standard-bearer in the style.
